Wairarapa Connection SW carriages (upgrade) – New Zealand

The Wairarapa Connection is a regional commuter service between New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington and the Wairarapa country town of Masterton. With locomotives provided by KiwiRail, the service is operated on behalf of the Greater Wellington Regional Council by Tranzdev and maintained by Hyundai-Rotem.

As part of a mid-life overhaul in 2020, Noske-Kaeser Rail & Vehicle undertook a fleet-wide overhaul and upgrade programme, which included replacing some key components with new technology, optimising the cooling capacity and reliability of the HVAC units.

The scope of work included baseline and post upgrade performance testing in our Palmerston North based R&D centre climactic thermal chamber.
